To dump or not to dump
In today's day & age "success" is largely measured on a monetary basis and hence consumerism is fueled by our constant desire to have the latest greatest model of anything & everything to show how "successful" we are and how we fit in with our peers.
Our culture has become so consumer driven that we have become a throw away society. If something is broken we chuck it & get a new one. Nothing is made to last because no one has any real intention of keeping it forever....or do they.
There is a growing number of people who are becoming more aware of their choices and as a result there are more options available.
Eco friendly products and packaging are becoming more of a norm for example.
Everything we buy is a choice of the kind of world we want to live in. Literally every dollar we spend is a vote for what we want more of.
If you want cheap, mass produced rubbish then continue to purchase those products.
If you don't, think about the alternatives and make a conscious choice from there.
We are throwing copious amounts of crap into landfill every year, do we really want to continue contributing to that?
This tea cup for example, it's chipped, it was destined for the rubbish but instead it has a new lease on life as a planter.
Next time something is broken or out of date does it really need to be thrown out? Does it still serve a purpose? Or can it be repurposed?
Sometimes it's the little things that actually add up to being bigger things.
Are you conscious of your consumption?
