Fueling the body & mind

One of the things I have grown more conscious of as I've gotten older is my health and the fuel I put into my body.

When I was younger I really did burn the candle at both ends, I had no interest in cooking or health, I ate & drank whatever I felt like, which was generally whatever was convenient and available on the go.

Now I am a lot more aware of what I put into my body.

I start each day with a warm lemon water and a bowl of hearty porridge. I'm not a morning person so I make an effort to start the day off right and eating a good breakfast has really helped with that.

Having a warm lemon water first thing in the morning is believed to have a multitude of benefits. It is said to kick start your metabolism, aid digestion & detoxification, rejuvenate the skin and give you a healthy dose of vitamin C to keep the immune system strong.

Oats are a very nutritious food, they are packed with important vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, they're high in fiber and contain higher levels of protein than other grains. They also lower blood sugar levels, reduce cholesterol and keep you regular. Plus, topped with a handful of fruit and almonds, they're delicious and keep you feeling full right up until lunchtime which reduces snacking and all those empty calories we sometimes consume without thinking about.

Without a doubt this one change alone has helped not only my body but also my mind, taking a few extra minutes to make and eat a nutritious breakfast has also given me time to breathe and think about the day ahead. It has helped me to tackle whatever the day may bring instead of rushing from dawn till dusk and wondering where time went.

Do yourself a favor, drag that lazy bum outta bed a little bit earlier and start your day off right, your body & mind will thank you for it.
